AHR helmet guide: Does dropping a motorcycle helmet from low height ruin it?

The answer is generally NO. Normally, the real concern is from a major drop (for example from a balcony or second story window) or accident. If you drop it from your hand or it falls off you bike seat or handle there should be no issue. If you do drop it, you should still inspect it carefully. If there are no dents or cracks in the shell and none of the inside components are loose, then you shouldn't need to replace it. However, it should be noted that frequent drops, even from your hand, can reduce the effectiveness of the helmet, and it could fail in an accident. Please take good care of you helmet and store it properly when not in use.

How do you know how tight your new motorcycle helmet should be? How tight is too tight? How loose is too loose? Here are a few tips that can help:
How tight is too tight?
No Pressure Points
A well-fitting helmet should be comfortably snug around the entire wearer's head without resulting in pressure points. Any pressure points or discomfort on the sides means that the helmet is too small, or not the right shape. Pressure points on the back of your head, at the base of your helmet, could mean that the helmet is not long enough. For a full-face helmet, if you feel the helmet squeezing your temples/cheeks too much and it causes discomfort, it means the helmet is too small.
No Red Forehead
If you fasten the chin strap and wear your helmet for a half hour and notice red spots when you take it off, it is too tight for you.
No Headache
If you get headaches or it is hard to breath during/after wearing the helmet, you should choose another size or consider another style of helmet, such as an open face helmet.
How loose is too loose?
(1) While riding, the helmet shouldn't have any up, down, or side to side movement. If you rock your head from side to side, or up and down, and the helmet moves, it means it is too loose for you.
(2) Fasten the chin strap and look straight ahead, then try to take off the helmet. If it comes off, this helmet is too large for you.
(3) If there is a gap between your cheek and the cheek pad, and your fingers can fit through, then the helmet is too loose for you.

1. Choose a helmet that meets DOT safety standards
Each state has its own laws pertaining to motorcycle helmets. Some states may not require the rider to wear a helmet that meets DOT safety standards. However, we do recommend you wear a helmet that meets DOT safety standards for your own safety. All AHR helmets meet DOT safety standards, and you can find the record information on the DOT official website.
2. Select a correct helmet style

3. Determine you head shape.
People generally have one of three head shapes: long oval, intermediate oval, and round oval. Some helmets will only fit a specific head shape, so it is important to figure out your head shape before buying. To find out your head shape, you can ask a family member or friend to take a photo of your head from above. Please make sure to flatten your hair as much as possible. If the forehead to back and ear to ear measurements are about the same, then your head is round oval shaped. If the forehead to back measurement is slightly longer than ear to ear, then your head is intermediate oval shaped. If the forehead to back is much longer than ear to ear measurement, then your head is long oval shaped. 4. Measure your head correctly by the seller's size chartDifferent sellers may have different size guides since the shape of the shell or inner padding of the helmets may be different. Often people only use their hat size to determine what helmet size they need. This may cause a fit issue. Is AHR helmet DOT certified? Is DOT helmet good?

Yes, all our AHR helmets are DOT certified. As shown in the listing photos, each helmet has a small DOT sticker on the back. Some new riders may have heard of the DOT certification, but they may not understand why it is important, so we have provided an explanation below.
What is DOT?
DOT stands for the Department of Transportation. This organization set Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 218 for motorcycle helmets. All helmets sold for use by motorcyclists in the United States are required to meet this standard. Helmets that meet the requirements of FMVSS 218 are considered 'DOT certified' and are given a DOT sticker. However, the Department of Transportation doesn't test the helmets directly. Instead, the DOT holds the helmet manufacturers responsible for testing their own helmets and adjusting to meet the standards. What to do to meet FMVSS 218? A helmet needs to pass 3 tests to meet FMVSS 218. First is the impact attenuation test. It includes dropping the helmet on different impact anvil (flat anvil and cylindrical penetrator anvil) from a pre-set height. It simulates a crash scenario, and the impact is measured using scientific tools under two separate crash tests. Second is the penetration test. The helmet is fixed to a base, then a sharp striker is dropped on the outer surface of the helmet. The test striker must not penetrate the helmet, otherwise it will not pass the test. Third is the retention strap test. For this test, the helmet retention straps are placed under a load in tension. The test starts with a load of 50lbs for 30 seconds. The load is then increased to 300lbs for 120 seconds. The strap test ensures it can hold the helmet in place in case of an accidentWhat does a DOT sticker look like? The DOT sticker contains the following wording and information: manufacturer and/or brand, DOT, FMVSS No. 218, CERTIFIEDAlthough the DOT certification is often considered as the most basic standard, it does certify that the helmet meets important safety standards. Helmet:  How do you measure head size before choosing a helmet?

A tailor's tape is the best tool for measuring your head for a helmet. Wrap the tape around the thickest part of your head. For most people, this will be right above your ears, approximately half an inch above your eyebrows. Measure your head circumference. Please refer head circumference table below to choosing a right size helmet.

How to remove the clear face shield from the AHR RUN-M Helmet?

It is easy to remove the clear face shield from the AHR RUN-M Helmet. Just lift the clear face shield until one side of the triangle plastic piece points to the slot. After that, just press another side of the triangle plastic piece and you are able to slide out the clear face shield now. We also attached a photo and a video here so you can understand better.

If you have AHR RUN-M helmets and would like to replace the original visor, you can order this AHR RUN-M Motorcycle Helmet Visor Replacement. It has 4 color options: RAINBOW, SILVER, BROWN and TRANSPARENT.
If you have AHR RUN-F helmets and would like to replace the original visor, you can order this AHR RUN-F Motorcycle Helmet Visor Replacement. It has 4 color options: RAINBOW, SILVER, BROWN and TRANSPARENT.
If you have AHR RUN-B helmets and would like to replace the original visor, you can order this AHR RUN-B Motorcycle Helmet Visor Replacement. It has 4 color options: RAINBOW, SILVER, BROWN and TRANSPARENT.
We do not recommend using other brands of visor as it may not be compatible.

As for how to remove and re-install the visor, please follow the below steps:
Remove: Put the black plastic tail on the lens to the groove on the side, firmly press the black plastic part on the lens, and pull it out.
Re-install: Make sure the black plastic tail is facing the slot, firmly press the black plastic end, and push the lens inward.

Can I wear glasses with AHR helmets?

When riding on the road, most riders want to wear glasses so it can protect eyes from dust, grit, glare and harmful UV rays. However, incorrect glasses may cause some unexpected problem, therefore, we have a few tips for you.
(1) For AHR RUN-M Flip Up Helmets, we do not recommend you wear any glasses underneath visor, because it may take some space and make your feel uncomfortable. Our Flip up helmets have dual visors and you can use the inner dark visor as sunglasses.
(2) For AHR Off-Road Helmets, we have some Dirt Bike Goggles that are compatible and there are 5 color options: YELLOW, RED, GRAY, TRANSPARENT and SILVER.
(3) Please note we do not recommend you wear a normal glasses with AHR helmet. They are unstable and easy to loose during riding, more over, if a motorcycle accident happens, the normal glasses may break easily and cause injury to you.

AHR Helmet: Can l change the inner padding to adjust the size?

It depends on which kind of AHR helmet you have ordered. And the size of helmet and pad you receive should be the same.
1. If you have ordered AHR RUN-M flip up modular helmet, then the answer is yes, we currently have 3 sizes of replacement liner and pad for this type of helmet. You can order the same size liner & pad as a replacement in case the original liner & pad wear out, or you can order a larger liner and pad to make the helmet fit more snugly.
2. If you have ordered AHR H-VEN20 Off-road Race Helmet, the Medium, Large and X-Large size liner & pad are available. However, please note that each liner and pad only fit their same helmet size. Medium only fit medium helmets, large only fits the large helmets, and xl only fits the xl helmets.
3. If you have ordered AHR RUN-F Full face motorcycle helmet, if you want to replace the original liner & pad or order a larger liner & pad to make the helmet fit more snugly, you can click the link below and select the size you need. 4 sizes are available now: AHR RUN-F Motorcycle Helmet Liner & Cheek Pads Replacement
4. If you have ordered AHR H-VEN30 Full Face Motorcycle Helmet, 4 sizes of liner & pad are available. However, please note the small liner and pad only fits in the small or medium helmet, as do the medium liner and pad. The large size liner & pad only fits in the large or X-Large helmet, as do the xl liner & pad. Because the small and medium helmets are using the same shell size, while the Large and X-Large helmets are using another shell size.
5. If you ordered other types of AHR helmet, the liners & pads of those helmets are special accessories corresponding to the helmet model and cannot be replaced with other liners & pads. Like AHR RUN-C and AHR RUN-G, their inner pad is not removable.

A motorcycle helmet is essential for your safety when riding the open road. However, when you need to stop, leaving your helmet with your motorcycle can mean getting it stolen. You can hold take it with you, but it is bulky and uncomfortable to carry with you. So, what can you do to keep your helmet from being stolen? Here are several options:
1. Consider installing a Motorcycle Tour Tail Box on your motorcycle. This box accommodates our AHR Half Face helmet, and 3/4 Open Face helmet and is lockable with 2 keys to keep your helmet safe.
2. Buy a suitable helmet lock and lock the helmet to your motorcycle. This is a widely used option. Helmet locks are available in different shapes and styles. To use with our Full face AHR helmet, you can buy a coiled cable lock and run it through the face opening, to the bottom of the helmet and lock it to the frame of your motorcycle, for example, the handlebars. After locking the helmet to your motorcycle, do not forget to cover the helmet with a waterproof fabric to protect it from rain and dirt.
3. Keep it in a backpack. Keeping your helmet in a backpack is an option you should consider because it is easy to carry and frees your hands. Our 24L Helmet Backpack is suitable for all our AHR helmets.
4. Keep it in the carry bag that came with your helmet. All our AHR helmets come with a carry bag and this bag can be stored easily when not in use.

As most motorcyclists know, riding a motorcycle can be loud. Usually the noise comes from other cars, the bikes own engine, and the wind. In fact, the wind specifically is the loudest source of noise, and can cause long term hearing damage. Luckily, there are ways to reduce this noise, and many of them are relatively cheap and simple.
Wearing a right helmet
There is no way to make a motorcycle helmet 100% soundproof. However, you can make it a lot quieter by getting a right helmet.
The first factor you need to consider is the type of the helmet. Normally a full-face helmet covers the whole face and is quieter than a flip up helmet. A flip up helmet is quieter than an open face or half face helmet.
Second is the design of the helmet. Even if both helmets are the same type, they may be affected differently by the wind. A helmet with good aerodynamics can reduce wind noise more effectively.
Third is the fit of the helmet. If you wear the wrong size helmet, there is more space inside your helmet, which allows the wind and noise to affect it more. Choosing a snug fitting helmet is important to reduce noise.
Using earplugs/Balaclava mask/Scarf
(1) Using earplugs is another effective way for reducing wind noise. High quality, correctly fitting earplugs are comfortable on long rides and it will not take up any space in the helmet.
(2) Some exposed segments in the chin area can contribute to wind noise, so you can wear a scarf to help reduce the noise. Please note the scarf should be tucked around the neck into the helmet to block out any air that may get into the helmet.
(3) Wear a BALACLAVA mask. It will also protect the liner from sweat and if you are using a half face helmet or open face helmet, it will also protect your face from bugs, rock, etc.
Closing the visor properly when riding
Opening the visor while riding results in turbulence, which can increase the noise level. It is important to make sure the visor is always completely closed before riding.
Do not forget to protect your ears when riding! By taking some of the suggested precautions, you can minimize your risk of hearing loss and have a more pleasant ride.

Yes, tinted visors are legal in the US. In fact, some states set Motorcycle Eye Protection Laws and require riders to wear motorcycle goggles or have helmet equipped with a visor on your helmet. There are several things you need to consider when using tinted or colored visors:
Do not use a dark visor while riding at dusk or at night as it may impair your ability to see.

AHR helmet guide: D-ring vs Quick Release buckle, which is better?

Currently there are 2 types of helmet chin straps on the market. One is the D-ring strap, and the other is the Quick release buckle strap. There is no data to indicate which is better/safer, so you can determine which is better for you.
What is Quick release buckle strap?
The quick release buckle strap consists of two parts, it has a red buckle with a tab on one side and a black plastic ratchet strap on another side. You just need to insert the plastic ratchet into the buckle, and it will auto-lock. Then when you want to loosen the strap, just pull the red tab.
Pros:
(1) The quick release buckle is a easier to use and can be used with one hand. Quick release buckles are more common and convenient for casual motorcycle riding.
Cons:
(1) It is not easy to use with a helmet lock since there is no ring. Instead, you can use a coiled cable lock and run it through the face opening of the helmet.
What is D-ring strap?
D-ring strap consists of two metal D-rings on one side of the strap and a simple strap on the other side. When you are securing your chin strap, you need to pass the strap through both D-rings, then around and through the center of the first D-ring and pull it tight to secure. The pros and cons of D ring strap are below:
Pros:
(1) It works better with a helmet lock.
(2) A D-ring helmet chin strap is considered the industry standard for helmets used in motorcycle racing.
Cons:
(1) A D-ring strap can be difficult to use, especially when you are wearing a gloves or if it is your first time using the strap.
(2) You need to secure/loosen it with two hands.
