The short answer is No. If you install the Electric Bicycle Motor Conversion Kit on a tandem bike, the weight of 2 riders may exceed the weight capacity of the electric wheel.
Even if the weight of 2 people is still within the weight capacity, we do not recommend installing it on a tandem bike, since it is a safety hazard to have only one person control the speed. Only install the Electric Bicycle Motor Conversion Kit on a single seat, 2-wheel conventional bicycle.
The simple answer is Yes. If you turn off the motor, or your battery is dead, you can still pedal your electric bicycle like you would a regular bicycle. Please note, however, that the additional weight of the e bike motor, battery and accessories will make your bike heavier, so it will be more difficult to pedal manually.
Although the connectors on our motors are water resistant, riding an electric bicycle in the rain is not recommended as there are numerous risks involved. Moisture may still get inside the motor or your battery and may damage them. Any damage caused by water is not covered by our warranty. You also risk slipping or hydroplaning while riding and higher speeds, which can cause serious injury.
The maximum speed advertised is achieved when the battery is fully charged. Therefore, it is recommended to use the recommended battery parameters. The speed of cycling is influenced by many factors, such as payload, battery level, wind resistance, etc., so this speed is only for your reference. The specific speed that can be achieved depends on the actual situation.
The motor contains 46 pieces (or 23 pairs) of magnets, which is the most common for direct drive motors. You are unable to see the magnest until you take the motor apart.
A kind note: We do not recommend you upgrade the magnets in the motor by yourself, it may damages the motor and will also violate the warranty.
Front (Rear) kit is the one that motor is on the front (rear) wheel, motor generates power to drive the bike forward. We also have attached 2 photos of our 26in 48v 1000w Electric Bicycle Motor below for reference, the left one with gears is rear kit, as the right one is front kit.
Adension on the rear wheel increases as the center of gravity of the bike moves backwards when accelerating, rear kit has more efficient acceleration and stability. If you mainly use manpower and need power assistance while riding, or you don't want to change the rear wheel or brake system of the bike, front kit is able to satisfy your needs. Generally, rear kit is the better one.
We do not recommend you install the front kit on rear wheel, please only install front kit on front wheel, rear kit on rear wheel.
There is a ring of magnets mounted on the pedal crank and a sensor fixed to the bottom bracket. As the pedal crank turns, the sensor reads the rate of pedaling. The faster the pedal cadence, the faster the controller will make the motor to spin. In other words, the motor works automatically to drive the wheel when you pedal so you could save your energy. The fast you pedal, the fast the wheel runs. The level of PAS is not adjustable as there is only one mode for PAS.
There are 2 different types of PAS accessories from 2 different suppliers of our ebike kit. One is the splitted body version, which is attached to YES3510, YES2467, YES1449. First, remove the non-drive crank arm which is on the side without the chainring/ sprocket (PAS Sensor can not be installed on the other side). Then remove the bottom bracket as well. Put the receiver ring (the silver part) on the frame through the axle, then thread the bottom bracket back and install the outer magnet ring (the black part) on the outside next to the bottom bracket in the same way like the disc. If your bike does not have bottom bracket, please fix the receiver ring on the frame with glue. Please note that the arrows on the magnet need to be consistent with the direction of pedaling forward, the gap between the receiver and magnet is 1-2mm, or the PAS would not work. The other one is the one piece version, which is attached to YES2463 and YES2464. First, remove the non-drive crank arm which is on the side without the chainring/ sprocket (PAS Sensor can not be installed on the other side). Then install the PAS Sensor on the axle in a certain direction as per manual.
Remove 6 hexalobular internal screws (star socket screws) on the hub first (refer to pic), then align 6 bolt rotors on the brake disc to 6 screw holes on the hub and retighten 6 screws back. All sizes brake disc (mostly 140mm, 160mm, 180mm and 203mm) are compatible with the hub of all our conversion kits. Please select proper sizes of brake disc according to the spacing between the hub and fork. Choosing the sizes also depends on how the heat transfer is taking place from the disc to provide the best possible heat dissipation to avoid the disc to wear out. Bigger brake discs have better heat dissipation.
No, there is no Energy Recycle System for our conversion kits. Energy would not be recharged to the battery by spinning or braking.
1. Please lift the bike so wheels are off the ground, spin the wheel with hands (power off) to check if noise exists. If so, noise could come from contacting between the frame of bike and the wheel. Please check if something wrong on the wheel or frame of bike. Also, please check brake systems on the wheel and frame of bike (e.g. the gap between brake disc and cliper). As well as the spokes.
2. Please unplug the connection of the controller and motor and replug it again to have a try. Please make sure the connectors and pins are clear, each connector is inserted in another to required position (the "'" sign).
3. Please try to run the wheel (make sure the bike is off ground) with throttle to check if the noise occurs. If so, please take a video of this situation (noise includes) and provide our constomer service with it so we can verify the issue quickly and provide a proper resolution.
Please be sure to use the throttle and brake levers that are attached and included in the package.
1. For conversion kits with a thumb throttle, they don't work with a twist throttle instead. Similarly, those conversion kits with a twist throttle don't work with a thumb throttle instead.
2. Please kindly note that the attached brake lever carries power-off function which can stop motor from working when braking. So please do not use other brake levers in our conversion kits.
There are several reasons that may cause the failure of the PAS sensor:
1. Installing PAS sensor in wrong direction.
2. Gap between PAS sensor and axle is too wide or narrow.
3. Connection for PAS to controller is loose or defective.
4. PAS accessory is not functional.
Please follow the below troubleshooting to fix the issue:
1. Please check the direction of PAS sensor and make sure it is installed as instruction shows.
2. Please check spacing between PAS sensor and bike axel (normally 1.5-2mm gap).
3. Please make sure connection between PAS sensor and controller are sercured and connected.
4. Please connect multimeter to black and red wires of PAS sensor, see if voltage is normal as the instruction indicated.
Yes there is a fuse on the red extension which is included in the package. The main purpose of the fuse is to provide a overcurrent protection, when the battery is unstable, which may cause the current or voltage in the circuit too high, it will burn the fuse to power off the electric bicycle. If without a fuse, constant overcurrnt may cause serious damages to the kit and even cause a fire.
Yes the motor is a gearless and Direct Drive motor so there is no need to shift. Compared to geared motor, direct-drive motors are capable of higher top speeds on a flat road, so if you live in a flat area and would like to get a more powerful, quieter and faster conversion kit, a direct drive motor would be the best option. Introduction of ebike motor: direct drive vs geared motor:Electric bike motors primarily come in two varieties: direct drive vs geared motor. Direct drive motors or direct-drive hub motors are large, gearless hub motors that use magnetic force inside a copper winding coil to conduct power through the motor, while geared motors or geared hub motors function via a set of planetary gears (or Planetary Gear Reduction System) that control speed. Pros and Cons:Both have their advantages, mostly concerning weight, battery efficiency, and overall horsepower. A direct drive motor offers a quiet ride with higher top speeds.Geared motors provide longer rides per charge and more torque, suitable for climbing hills and riding on varying terrains.Direct drive motors are large and heavy and are harder to foot pedal with, while geared motors are small and easier to pedal without power, but are far noisier.Geared motors don't last as long as direct drive motors.
Please kindly note that the LCD and controller are the brain of each conversion kit which comes with it, so any parameter or setting of it affects riding. For safety consideration, we do not offer any instruction on adjusting parameter or setting of the LCD or conversion kit. And we do not suggest any unecessarily clicking on the LCD to avoid parameter and setting being changed. All our conversion kits are for daily commuting and please ride the ebike under local legislation. Speed limit and overload setting are not allowed as well.
Yes you can paint the hub if you want it to match the frame of your bike. But please keep in mind that you need to cover the wire connections with something properly, just to make sure the paint will not spray into the wire connections. As it takes some work, we recommend you send the kit to a local auto shop to have them painted it, the man at the shop will be more professional in painting a hub.
We do not offer assembly service for the Electric Bicycle Conversion Kit, but we provide step by step instruction and you can follow our instruction to install the Conversion Kit. If you still do not know how to install it after looking at the instruction, you can take it to your local automobile repair shop and pay for a assembly service to let the technician install it for you, the cost depends upon your locality.
We no longer carry batteries for our Electric Bicycle Motor Conversion Kit , so you may need to buy a battery separately. You can order batteries through Amazon or other sites, or you can buy one from a local shop. When choosing a battery, please make sure buy a battery that meets the recommended specifications. There are specific voltage and amp requirements for the bike to function properly, higher or lower volts or amps could cause the conversion kit to be inoperable.
Different Electric Bicycle Motor Conversion Kits require different batteries:
For our 48v 1000w Electric Bicycle kit, which comes with a thumb throttle (YES1527 or YES1528), an electrokinetic cell battery ( Li, lead-acid, NiMH battery etc.) featured in nominal voltage 48v, nominal capacity in the range of 17 to 20Ah is compatible with the motor.
For our 48v 1000w Electric Bicycle kit, which comes with a LCD, PAS system and Speed throttle (YES2463), an electro kinetic cell battery ( Li, lead-acid, NiMH battery etc.) featured in nominal voltage 48v, nominal capacity 17 to 20Ah is compatible with the motor.
For our 48v 1000w Electric Bicycle kit, which comes with a Fat wheel, PAS system and Speed throttle (YES3510), the suitable battery type and parameters are: 48V, 30A, recommended capacity is at least 8.8AH or above. Will travel about 12.5 mi.
For our 48V 1500W Electric Bicycle kit, which comes with a thumb throttle (YES2468), the suitable battery type and parameters are: 48V, 35A, recommended capacity is 20AH. Will travel about 24.8 mi (40Km).
For our 36V 750w Electric Bicycle kit, which comes with a thumb throttle (20'' wheel: YES3511 or 24'' wheel: YES3512), the suitable battery type and parameters are: 36V, 25A, recommended capacity is at least 8.8AH or above. Will travel about 12.5 mi (20Km).
Our conversion kits require to deprecate original brake levers as only attached ones can power off with the controller while braking. So please refit the connection of original brake levers to attached ones. If you use hydraulic brake system, please switch to linear brake system which is the one we recommend for our conversion kits. Hydraulic brake system is incompatible with our conversion kits.
The electric bicycle kit is only compatible with conventional bicycles. We do NOT recommend installing the electric bicycle kit on tricycles. There are 3 main reasons why it is not suitable for tricycles.
1. The front forks of a tricycle are different than conventional bikes, and you cannot install the electric wheel properly with an incompatible front fork. This may cause the electric wheel to slip out of the fork while you are riding, resulting in serious injury.
2. The size of the crank axle in a tricycle is different than a conventional bicycle. For our electric kits that contain a PAS system, you may not be able to install the PAS system. Even if you can install it, it may not function properly.
3. A tricycle weighs more than a bike and is often used to carry or pull things. This may exceed the load capacity of our electric kits and cause serious damage to the motor. It will shorten the life of the electric kit.
There are different E-bike motor kits available for different types of riding. Some provide greater power, more torque, and better control, so they are more suitable for all-terrain or mountainous regions. Others, however, have less power and limited torque, so they are more suitable to use on flat land. It is important to know where and how you will be using your E-bike so that you purchase the correct kit. Our Electric Bicycle Motor kits are more suited for recreational riding, and we recommend using it on flat and smooth land. If you want to use it to climb smaller hills, make sure the maximum slope of the hill is no greater than 12 degrees. If the hill is steep (more than 12 degrees), it may overload the motor, resulting in the motor and controller starting the power-off protection and cut off the power.
We have several e-bike kits and different kit has different torque rating. Higher torque rating means a better ability to keep turning the wheel. Generally if you live in flat area and do not go up hill often, an e-bike with around 50nm torque rating is good enough, you can use it for commuting or other casual riding.
