There are several types of roof top.
1. Naked/bare roof: A vehicle with a naked roof (or bare roof) would not have tracks or rails. Bare roof racks are used on all types of vehicles: cars, CUVs, SUVs, vans and Pickup Trucks.
2. Raised Side Rails: Raised roof rails run from the front to the back of the roof and there is a gap between the roof and the rail. Raised roof rails are found mainly on CUVs and SUVs.
3. Flush Rails: Flush rails run from front to back on your vehicle and are flush to the rood without any space between the rail and the roof. There is typically a inner and/or outer groove that allows connection of a crossbar.
4. Fixed connection points: Fixed points are factory threaded fasted down points that are typically located on the outer edge of the roof at toe points on each side. The connection points are located under a roof trim piece, a removable panel or flip up panel.
5. Tracks: Tracks are long grooved channels that run along the sides of vehicle roof from front to back.
6. Factory crossbars: These are two bars/slats that run across the vehicle roof from driver's side to passenger side.
7. Rain Gutters: A metal ridge, exists on some late model vehicle's but typically are found on full sized cargo and passenger vans.

We do not have a comprehensive list of vehicles that are compatible with our car side awning. We do know from speaking to customers that our car side awning can be installed directly onto the stated models : 2018 Toyota 4runner, 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 2016 Jeep Renegade Latitude, 2003 Pontiac Vibe, 2015 Nissan Xterra S, 2010 Ford Escape XLT. The factor that will determine if our car side awning is compatible with your car is if you have raised roof rails.

You cannot install the car side awning to your roof top directly. With the L shape mounting bracket kit included, it requires raised roof rails. One option for customers without raised roof rails is to use a basket or roof rack.
To attach the side awning on a roof rack or basket:
(1) Before adding the additional cargo basket or rack, its important to check your owner's manual or the vehicles manufacturing website to determine the weight capacity of your car's roof.
(2) If you decide to add a cargo basket or rack in order to install the car side awning, please kindly make sure your cargo basket/rack and the car side awning are all secured properly.
(3) We also recommend you to add some wooden wedges into the gap, between the L shape bracket and the plate so the bracket is stable and does not move when driving.
