Since sinks are constantly wet, you'll want to ensure that the water remains inside the sink and doesn't leak out into the surrounding cupboards through the tiny space between the sink's rim and the underside of the counter. The best way to seal this gap is to apply good quality caulk or silicone sealer between the sink rim and the counter during installation and allow the silicone to dry completely before using the basin.
Keep the following in mind when planning to fit a new undermount sink or replace an old drop-in sink with an undermount version. Only counters made from hard materials such as natural stone, marble, granite, quartz, and specific plastic or resin-based materials are well suited with undermount sinks.
The cutout edge in the counter, which houses the sink, is directly exposed to water, so only waterproof countertops are suitable to avoid water damage. Wood-based counter materials will absorb moisture and be ruined over time.
This kitchen sink also called Undermount Sink so it definately can be mount under the countertop. As you can see in the pictures on the listing, there are protruding hemlines on the edge of the sink. Some of you may do not like those parts show and would like them to be hidden after installation. So I suggest you reserving concave space on the countertop for hemlines so that the level which includes hemlines and countertop surface is flat. After that, you may put stones or woods for decoration on the countertop to cover hemlines.
1. Measuring the Depth of the Sink
You can use a ruler or measuring tape. Measure the depth of the old sink to compare it with the new one. Finding a sink with matching depth will make the installation easier.
2. Measuring the Length of the Sink
Place a tape measure or ruler end-to-end above the sink and take the measurement. This will indicate how long your new sink should be. The length of the sink should cover the cutout area and should take into consideration the sink being an overmount or undermount.
3. Determining the Width of the Sink
Put a tape or ruler in place and take the measurement. Be sure to note this and all other measurements on a piece of paper.
4. Get the Width of the Top Edge of the Sink
The edge of the kitchen sink usually has a longer width than the lower portion. Getting the exact measurement makes it easier for you to install top-mount or drop-in sinks. For undermount sinks, that measurement isn't as important. You simply match the measurement with the kitchen sink cutout size. It is best to measure under the counter, which will also allow you to verify that the depth of the sink is compatible with your space.
5. Measure the Length of Countertop Space
Place the tape or ruler along the cutout and write down the measurement. After that, place the tape across the sink and take note of the measurement. You may want to hold one end of the tape while someone else holds the other.
6: Measure the Width of the Countertop Space
Overmount sinks are usually attached to the countertop at their edges. Because of this, it's not enough to measure the length and width of the cutout. Extend a little further than the edges of the cutout to find out the exact area you need to install the new sink. Please take note of the measurements so that you can use them when purchasing the new sink. If the sink is too wide, it won't fit into the cutout. Similarly, a sink that's too small won't hold tightly after installation.
