A common issue that many people experience is that their patio umbrella starts spinning in the breeze. It can be dangerous because the umbrella may fall over and hit something or someone. So, how can you fix it?
An umbrella may spin if the table hole or the mounting hole of the stand is too large. Because there is a gap between the pole and the hole, it allows the umbrella pole to move.
If the issue is caused by a bigger table hole, you can try to add filling material to the table hole to lock the main pole in place, or you can buy an Umbrella Cone Wedge. It is used between the table hole and umbrella pole; it is generally inexpensive and can effectively protect umbrella from spinning.
If the issue is caused by a bigger stand hole, you can still try to add filling material to the stand hole. One trick that can be useful is using popsicle sticks. It is easy to do, all you do is loosen the bolt a little bit, insert a popsicle stick into the gap between the stand hole and the pole. Then, tighten the bolt. Or you can buy another base that has an appropriately sized hole.
Another reason that may cause your umbrella to spin is the bolt in the stand. Sometimes you may not have tightened the bolt properly. It can also loose with the passage of time, or your base is old enough that the bolt no longer works properly. In this case, tighten the bolt properly and add some weighs (like sandbags) to fix the base if possible . Or replace the old base with a solid base with a heavy-duty bolt.
An umbrella may start to spin if your table ring is deformed. Most tables have a plastic table ring that is placed around the opening, and it will deform or crack over time. Please check your table ring and if you notice the table ring has cracked or deformed, replace it with a new one.
Here are a few maintenance tips to keep your umbrella looking and working like new.
1. Fabric Care:
For lighter colored umbrellas, one of the best ways to keep your umbrella fabric in like-new condition is to remove the stains on a monthly basis. If the fabric gets dirty, wipe it off with a towel or a soft bristle brush. It is not recommended to soak the fabric.
For darker colored umbrellas, it is better to use an additional protective spray so it will not fade quickly.
2. Frame/pole Care:
Open or close it gently, do not too be too forceful. For the metal umbrellas that use the hand crank, if it gets stuck, slowly turn the crank clockwise and counterclockwise to ensure it turns smoothly. We also recommend periodically checking whether the pull rope near the top of the umbrella pole is knotted, whether the pulley rotates normally, and whether the pull rope is in the middle of the pulley.
A wooden or metal pole is not designed to be used inside a pool, but can be used near a pool.
If there is an accumulation of mold between the wooden umbrella frame, you can follow the below steps to remove it: (1). Add a teaspoon of soap to a spray bottle filled with water and shake it up. (2). Spray the affected area and use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub away the mold, sponging up any excess liquid as you clean. (3). Dry the surface completely with a towel and add some some furniture wax in case it gets mold again.
3. General tip:
Close it and use a umbrella cover to protect it when not in use. If you want to store it for next summer, store it in a dry, shaded location. Always make sure it is completely dry before storing it.
Yes we do sell one wooden umbrella that can be tilted, it has a push button and you can push it to adjust the angle easily.
